Who doesn’t love Starbucks?

Founded in Seattle in 1971, this coffeehouse chain and coffee company stands supreme when it comes to customer loyalty.

With a presence in more than 65 countries, its 21,000 stores cater to coffee lovers around the globe. It’s no wonder Daily Meal rates it as the number one coffee chain in the United States.

And when you walk into one of their many stores, you’re bombarded by choices, because Starbucks isn’t just for coffee any more.

They serve specialty teas, protein drinks, and other delicious beverages — even some from a “secret menu” that only true Starbucks fans will know about.

So how do you figure out which drinks are worth splurging on? Let us give you a quick tour of the 10 best offerings on their menu.

How We Rated the Menu Items to Find the Best Starbucks Drink

With over 80,000 choices on the menu, due to Starbucks’ penchant for letting customers super-customized their drink orders, finding the best Starbucks drink is a venti order.

We perused all the of standard choices, leaving customization out of the picture, since that’s such an individual matter.

And Starbucks is constantly adding items to — and subtracting them from — their menus, which often vary by region as well, so it can be difficult to keep up with what’s new.

However, we considered all of the 34 drinks currently on the Starbucks menu in terms of nutrition, price, and flavor to pare them down to the top 10 choices.

Using three separate characteristics to rate the drinks will give you a better idea of each beverage’s all-around suitability not only as a flavorful treat, but as an addition to a sensible diet.

The Top 10 Starbucks Drinks

After a great deal of time spent researching and curating our favorites from the current Starbucks menu, we finally have a list of our favorites.

We’ve made sure to include the best from several categories of drinks — hot, iced, coffees, teas, fruit beverages, and specialty drinks.

We’ve given you information on nutrition and price, with an added rating for flavor on a one to 10 scale — 10 being the best — so you can get a feel for how our three rating characteristics impact each drink choice.

Remember, pricing will vary depending on which Starbucks you’re visiting, but most of our pricing is from one site, so it should reflect differences between drinks.

We’ve added links to pricing we were forced to curate from other sites. Also, the information we’ve included is for the smallest size — Starbucks calls this a “Tall” — unless otherwise noted.

For reference, Starbucks generally offers several sizes that are, from smallest to largest:

  • Short
  • Tall
  • Grande
  • Venti

To keep our numbers in the mid-range, we opted for the lower of the two middle sizes, the Tall.

So, without further delay, here’s the best of the best from Starbucks, beginning with a simple, yet flavorful new offering on the menu.

Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew

This is a simple, yet incredibly decadent drink — and the cold brew makes it perfect for hot summer days.

Starbucks makes their own vanilla sweet cream in-house, and they float a heaping helping of it into the deep, dark depths of their subtly brewed cold brew coffee.

Just watching the mesmerizing swirls of cream as it sends white ribbons of vanilla goodness throughout the rich coffee is an experience in and of itself.

The taste is amazing, with the juxtaposition of sweet, creamy vanilla with slightly bitter, yet smooth, coffee a perfect complement.

This a perfect drink on its own or paired with a treat from the bakery.

Leave it to Starbucks to create a completely new coffee sensation — the cold foam coffee.

Served much like beer — only with a thickened head of subtly sweetened foam instead of a hoppy header — the Cascara Cold Brew is more than a taste. It’s a coffee experience.

The foam is sweetened with Starbucks’ own Cascara syrup that features a hint of rich maple and dark brown sugar.

It tops a shivery cold glass of their house Cold Brew and is completed with a touch of vanilla syrup for a well-rounded taste.

This coffee is best enjoyed on its own for the fullest tasting experience. Like a fine craft bear, the Cascara Cold Brew is a unique and addicting taste.

Starbucks takes the strongest, concentrated shots of espresso — called “ristretto” — and mixes them with just the right amount of steamed milk to create the perfect balance of creaminess and flavor.

The Flat White’s not fancy, but sometimes the simplest things are the most delightful — and this coffee treat is one of them.

A great coffee, done well — enough said.

Starbucks takes vanilla bean powder made from real vanilla beans and combines it with expertly frothed coconutmilk to top their Blonde Espresso.

Their Blonde Espresso is their first new espresso flavor in over 40 years, and it’s taking coffee lovers by storm.

Fans have named it the “upside-down latte” and it’s fairly popular at most Starbucks locations.

Smooth and sweeter than their regular espresso, Blonde Espresso has just as much caffeine, so you’ll still get that nice jolt from your beverage.

An added plus for the vegan and vegetarian crowd — as well as those with sensitivity to milk products — the Blonde Vanilla Bean Coconutmilk Latte is vegan.

Blonde Roast

This is the kind of “plain” coffee that will appeal to anyone.

A light, brightly-flavored roast that is mellow, with fewer bitter undertones, Blonde Roast makes a perfect cup any time of day.

Coffee purists will love its simple, refined taste and newbies to coffee circles will appreciate the lack of “burnt” flavors that darker roasts contain.

The Blonde Roast has got enough smoothness and flavor to drink plain but adding a dollop of cream or some of Starbucks’ flavored syrups like hazelnut, caramel, or vanilla can dress it up nicely.

Best of all, you won’t bust your calorie budget on this one — it’s a great drink if you’re watching sugar and carbs.

Green Tea Latte

Love your matcha tea?

With lots of antioxidants and wellness benefits, it’s a great way to drink in some healthy goodness.

Starbucks ups the flavor quotient by adding a touch of sweetness and a smooth, frothy cap of steamed milk of your choice for a lovely hot tea latte.

Teavana® Shaken Pineapple Black Tea Infusion Lemonade

Another super-refreshing option, these shaken teas are made with Starbucks’ own tropical fruit and botanical blends.

These are melded with top-of-the-line Teavana® Black Tea and house-made lemonade, then liquid cane sugar is added to produce a subtle sweetness that’s not too syrupy or overpowering.

These are perfect after a workout, or when you’re needing some hydration on a particularly hot day.

Triple Mocha Frappuccino

How much chocolate can you get into one coffee drink?

That seems to be the question Starbucks is trying to answer with their Triple Mocha Frappuccino®.

This drink starts with their original Mocha Coffee Frappuccino® and then it’s layered with whipped cream that’s been touched with dark caramel, white chocolate mocha, and cold brew coffee.

On top of each layer of whipped cream are lashings of a dark mocha sauce so rich and thick it’s like licking a chocolate bar.

The drink is layered so that every sip gives you a taste of all the chocolate flavors — from beginning to end.

Watch out for that sugar, though — this drink is full of it. With around 40 grams of carbs for just the tall version, you can easily slurp down half a day’s worth of your carb allowance in one sitting.

Cold-pressed juices are processed in a unique way to keep their fresh taste — and nutrients — intact. These drinks are super-hydrating and very refreshing.

This one is like taking a great, big bite out of the sweetest, juiciest watermelon in the patch. Perfect for a post-work-out treat or to cool you down after working — or playing — in the hot summer sun.

Take one to the beach or poolside for the ultimate in refreshment. These are pre-bottled, so they can travel well wherever you need instant refreshment.

Caffé Mocha

image via: Starbucks Website

And oldie, but a goodie, Starbucks’ Caffé Mocha pairs their full-bodied, smooth espresso with the bite of bittersweet chocolate for a perfect taste contrast.

Topped with mounds of fluffy whipped cream, this beverage will satisfy both your coffee cravings and your sweet tooth.

Be careful, though, because you can easily get more than your daily share of fat and sugars from this drink, especially if you order the venti size.

It’s easy to do, too, because the drink’s bittersweet undertones masks the sweetness of the chocolate and cream so you don’t feel like you’re getting all that sugar.
